An online cultural bank to increase local artists’ visibility
Tampere – Finland
Pillar 1:
Ecological transition in the field of culture
Priority 4:
Encouraging local artistic creation
The City of Tampere’s online Pirkanmann kulttuuripankki (the Pirkanmann Culture Bank), showcases local artists and cultural creators, with the aim to increase their visibility, employability, and opportunities for collaboration.
By Autumn 2024, the Culture Bank featured over 6000 artists and more than 4000 cultural and artistic services, ranging from comic book workshops to concerts and film festival productions.
Free to use, the platform is open to artists in Pirkanma and 14 surrounding regions.
The Culture Bank both helps local artists thrive and encourages the use of locally sourced materials and services. It has received positive feedback and is marketed widely to various organisations to promote the use of art in different contexts.
For example, for the local waste management organisation, the platform has helped to find and purchase cultural services. For several years, the organisation utilised cultural services to create educational campaigns for schools.
Through these efforts, Tampere ensures that local culture flourishes and that local artistic creation is at the forefront of cultural activities.
There is a current and ongoing project to expand the online Culture Bank to cover multiple regions, led by the City of Tampere and funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture (EU Next Generation).
