Encouraging local artistic creation

Manchester encourages local artistic creation by weighting 30% of any procured services the Council makes against the social value commitment to the community. Additionally, 10% of this weighting is allocated to Zero Carbon commitments. This includes supporting local artists, commissioning local organisations and implementing green processes.

The annual culture awards have a dedicated award called ‘Made in Manchester’, which recognises the unique and amazing forms of creativity that are found in Manchester.

For this award, Manchester is particularly keen to capture art forms that have been less frequently represented in the awards to date.

Furthermore, the city continues to monitor funded organisations, asking them to report on the number of local artists they work with in the city and encouraging them to commission local artists where possible.
