Getting to cultural venues sustainably

Uppsala – Sweden

Pillar 1:
Ecological transition in the field of culture

Priority 3:
Rethinking mobility / reducing carbon emissions due to the mobility of artists and audiences

Uppsala is committed to improving sustainability across all sectors, including mobility to cultural events. Carried out as part of a collaboration between the municipality’s Departments of Culture and Communications, Res hit hållbart (Travel here sustainably) is an initiative launched in 2024. The initiative focuses on providing visitors to cultural events in Uppsala with easy access to environmentally friendly travel options, such as public transport, cycling, and walking.

This includes adding clear and accessible travel information to the websites of cultural attractions and events, and highlighting public transport routes, cycling paths and walking routes. Additionally, the city promotes carpooling and prioritises limited parking near cultural venues. While not directly altering transport routes, the initiative aims to facilitate the use of sustainable mobility by providing accessible and practical information for visitors.
