Building environmental awareness through summer library programmes

Kharkiv – Ukraine

Pillar 1:
Ecological transition in the field of culture

Priority 2:
Preserving nature in urban areas when hosting events

Kharkiv actively promotes biodiversity conservation through educational campaigns at various events.

In recent years and despite the war, the city has continued the “Summer with the Library” project aimed at children and teenagers. Public libraries organise outdoor art sessions, interactive quests, and hiking trips, where participants explore the local flora and fauna and learn to identify plants.

These activities include exhibitions highlighting the importance of biodiversity and ways children can contribute to environmental conservation.

By blending educational and recreational elements, the initiative fosters active participation and enhances environmental awareness among young participants.
