Artistic diversity in Maia: the Contemporary Art Biennial

Maia – Portugal

Pillar 2:
Inclusion in culture and through culture

Priority 14:
Developing ambitious cultural projects for vulnerable groups

The Maia Contemporary Art Biennial was created to support established and, above all, emerging artists, creating opportunities for artistic expression, visibility and dialogue across the different practices and trends of contemporary art. Held every two years, the Biennial presents a diverse programme including exhibitions, talks, workshops, performances and educational activities, inviting audiences to engage directly with contemporary creations.

The initiative therefore contributes to valuing artistic diversity by providing a platform for different artists, artistic trajectories and forms of expression, while fostering dialogue between diverse perspectives and creative approaches. Through its educational and mediation activities, it seeks to bring these different artistic expressions closer to the community and to a broad range of audiences. All of which demonstrates how the Municipality of Maia is recognising cultural and artistic diversity as a key element of the city’s cultural programming.
