Helping cultural organisations reduce their carbon emissions
Manchester – United Kingdom
Pillar 1:
Ecological transition in the field of culture
Priority 9:
Training city staff and local actors on biodiversity and ecological issues
Zero Carbon Culture is a guide to help Manchester’s cultural organisations go green. The online guide was produced for Manchester City along with Julie’s Bicycle, a not-for-profit supporting environmental action across the arts.
The development of Zero Carbon Culture was informed by discussions with a group of 16 of Manchester’s cultural organisations, many of them members of GMAST (Greater Manchester Arts Sustainability Team).
The guide provides inspiration on the forms of action cultural organisations in Manchester can take, depending on who they are and what they do. It has been developed in line with the priorities and actions outlined in the Manchester Climate Change Framework.
It focuses on actions taken to reduce harm on the planet without incurring major costs and without major capital investment. For each area, there is a summary of different types of actions and signposting for further resources and support. At the end of the guide, additional resources covering topics such as skills, training and programming are also provided.
