SAIL: Sustainable arts in Leeds

Leeds – United Kingdom

Pillar 1:
Ecological transition in the field of culture

Priority 10:
Having specialist to carry out public policy objectives on sustainable culture

Leeds City Council funds Sustainable Arts in Leeds (SAIL) to establish a baseline carbon footprint for Leeds’ cultural industries.

SAIL supports Leeds Cultural Investment Programme (LCIP) organisations to collect and report on their environmental data, with resources scaled to the size of the organisation and level of funding received from LCIP.

Smaller organisations have access to a training course, resources, and a recorded webinar on how to collect and report on their data, and larger organisations have their data verified for consistency and accuracy.

In 2024 alone, LCIP delivered 500 training opportunities. Through LCIP, SAIL has made progress on bringing together working groups on circular economy principles and sustainable transport solutions and continues to build and develop on this work.
