The GAS Seal initiative: Accessibility and sustainability
Terrassa – Spain
Pillar 2:
Ecological transition in the field of culture
Priority 15:
Integrating gender issues and ensuring gender parity in local cultural policies
Culture in Terrassa is alive, diverse, safe, inclusive, and pluralistic, reflecting the city’s long-standing commitment to equal access and participation in cultural life.
The municipality continues to make culture accessible to everyone by applying its distinctive seal of committed culture, known as GAS (which stands for Genders, Accessibility, and Sustainability), to cultural events and initiatives across the city.
Launched in 2019 through an initiative of the Department of Cultural Promotion, the GAS seal defines the principles guiding all cultural projects developed or supported in Terrassa. It ensures that these projects are free from gender discrimination and that they promote a non-sexist and non-androcentric vision of the cultural sphere.
The seal also encourages the visibility and recognition of artistic creations by people of all genders, helping to shape a more equitable and representative cultural landscape.
In addition, the city’s new regulation on social rights explicitly includes the right of citizens to access culture. This legal recognition reinforces Terrassa’s goal of making cultural participation available to everyone, regardless of gender, age, background, or social status, and of providing equal opportunities for high-quality training in any of the arts.
The GAS seal further extends its reach to cover zero-waste cultural projects, linking cultural creation with environmental responsibility and ensuring that sustainability remains an integral part of Terrassa’s cultural identity.
